I created Survivalist Cave to help make preparedness more practical, more approachable, and less overwhelming for everyday people.
My background with preparedness comes from real-world experience over many years. I served in the military, and I have spent a large part of my life hiking, camping, backpacking, and testing gear in the outdoors. I grew up in southern Oregon, have lived in very different parts of the country, and have spent time learning how environment, terrain, weather, and distance can all change what “being prepared” really means.
Over the years, I have hiked in Oregon and northern California, spent significant time outdoors in the Arizona desert, and learned firsthand that preparedness is not just about buying gear. It is about thinking ahead, knowing your limits, understanding your environment, and having equipment that actually works when you need it. I still regularly test gear for myself and do not believe in recommending things just because they sound good on paper.
Preparedness has also been something I have taught directly to others. For years, I have served as an instructor in Emergency Preparedness through my local church, with classes that have been open to the public as well. Through that experience, I have seen that many people want to be more prepared, but often do not know where to start or feel overwhelmed by all the noise surrounding the topic.
That is a big part of why I created this site.
Survivalist Cave is my way of sharing practical preparedness knowledge in a way that is grounded, realistic, and useful. I want to help people think through real issues like go bags, food storage, emergency planning, outdoor readiness, and the mindset behind preparedness without the hype, fear tactics, or unnecessary complexity.
I also created the Food Storage Planner app after realizing I could not find the kind of tool I wanted on the app store. So I taught myself how to build it, package it, and launch it. In the same spirit, I created the Where Do I Start? book series to help break preparedness down into manageable steps for people who want to build readiness one piece at a time.
At the end of the day, I am not here to pretend preparedness is glamorous. I am here because I believe being prepared matters, and because I have spent years learning, testing, teaching, and building resources that can help others do the same.
If that sounds like the kind of approach you are looking for, welcome to Survivalist Cave.
